Constantin Brâncoveanu (1654-1714) war von November 1688 bis April 1714 Fürst (Rumänisch: domn) der Walachei. Seine 25-jährige Herrschaft ist eine der längsten in der Geschichte des Fürstentums. Mit Ausnahme eines kurzen Zeitraumes am Anfang, war es eine friedliche Periode, während der besonders die kirchliche Architektur aufblühte.

FÜRSTENTUM MOLDAU (1354 BIS 1859)

Die Zeit zwischen 1711 und 1821 wird in der rumänischen Historiographie als die „Phanariotenzeit“ bezeichnet, eine Zeit des Verfalls und nationalen Desasters. Die Walachei und die Moldau verloren bis auf den äusseren Anschein ihre Unabhängigkeit, und die Pforte forderte beträchtliche Tributzahlungen ein.
